Champions of Justice Awards Presented at 20th Annual Ending Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Conference
The three-day Ending Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Conference wraps up today with special awards for people who have gone above and beyond to help victims. Executive Director of the Kentucky Association of Sexual Assault Programs Eileen Recktenwald says that includes kudos for state Sen. Julie Raque Adams, R-Louisville, and Sen. Morgan McGarvey, D-Louisville.
KCADV and Bardstown City Councilwoman Kecia Copeland Host Domestic Violence Awareness Luncheon
KCADV and Bardstown City Councilwoman Kecia Copeland hosted a domestic violence awareness luncheon on October 12, 2018 at My Old Kentucky Home State Park. The luncheon, emceed by WAVE 3 News anchor Dawne Gee, was part of KCADV's 2018 Purple Purse Challenge. The Challenge, which runs the month of October, raises funds for KCADV's emergency fund.

Verizon grants $20,000 to KCADV
The funds will be used to support financial education classes, credit counseling, Individual Development Accounts (IDAs), and microloans for survivors served by the state’s 15 regional domestic violence programs and state community college system.
Women's Crisis Center names new Executive Director
Christy Burch was named executive director of the Women’s Crisis Center on July 1, succeeding Marsha Croxton who is retiring. Burch has served as Director of Prevention at WCC for the last five years.
KY DV Programs participate in one-day national census
On September 13, 2017, Kentucky domestic violence programs served 962 adults and children. However, a significant number of requests for help – 57 – went unmet because domestic violence agencies lacked the funding and staff to meet demand.
Allstate Foundation grants $50,000 for Economic Empowerment work
The Allstate Foundation awarded the Kentucky Coalition Against Domestic Violence $50,000 to support its nationally recognized Economic Empowerment Project this year.
Lewis-Bowling chosen to moderate the Kentucky Victim Assistance Academy in September
Angelika Lewis-Bowling, a victim’s advocate for the Williamsburg City Police Department, has been selected as the narrator of the Kentucky Victim Assistance Academy (KVAA) scheduled to take place in September 2018. The KVAA was created by the Kentucky Justice and Public Safety Cabinet in collaboration with the Kentucky Attorney General’s Office and the Kentucky Coalition against Domestic Violence.
Joint Custody Will Be The Default Under New Kentucky Law
Separating parents will get joint custody of their children as a default under a bill signed into law by Gov. Matt Bevin last week.
